A Day In The Life Of Us

There is not a single day that is the same, but I do a lot of the same things every day if that makes sense! Here’s a snapshot of what a typical day looks like for me!

6:15 am

Wake up! Unless one of my kids wakes up before me, I usually set my alarm for 6:15 am. Before I get out of bed, I stretch. Legs up, ankle circles, windshield wipers, and open the book. THEN I get out of bed. I chug some water and head downstairs to get breakfast ready for the kids before they wake up. I pour myself a cup of coffee and take a few sips in the quiet overlooking the woods behind my house. It’s my brief meditation before the chaos begins.

6:40 am

CHAOS!!!! Kids are awake, everyone’s getting ready for school/daycare/work. I’ve learned to embrace this, haven’t always been successful but I’m a work in progress. I don’t have a morning routine to get ready - I wish I had time for that. I have about 10-15 minutes to get myself together before I have to help the kids. I put on my face products, throw a little mascara on and that’s that!

7:15 am

Little Asher is out the door and it’s just me and Sage for a bit. I cherish this alone time with her in the mornings. It’s one of my favorite parts of my day. We eat breakfast together. It’s our time to connect, talk about our day to come and sometimes even have a dance party!

7:45 am

Sage and I walk down the driveway and wait for the bus with our neighbors.

8:00 am

This is usually when I work out or start seeing clients. Sometimes I can fit in a brief 30-minute lifting session and sometimes I start work right away.

8:00 - 2:00 pm

My workday! I’m seeing clients virtually most of the day with a few in person so it’s a nice mix! I try to schedule my clients with brief breaks in between when I know I’ll need to eat or just take a minute to breathe. If I’m not seeing clients, I’m busy doing backend work for Vos to help the team! This may include newsletters, blogs, event planning and more,  I try to eat snacks/meals when I can and plan ahead so I ensure that I get nourishment.

Workout time! I schedule in my workouts whenever I don’t see clients. I don’t have a dedicated workout time - it’s literally whenever I can fit it in. Some days I’m lucky to get it done first thing; other days I have to wait. Twice a week during the nicer weather, I’m out running; other times I’m lifting weights or doing a Pilates workout on my Reformer. Moving my body helps me feel centered and gives me a brief moment of self-care. My workouts are rarely more than 30 minutes long. It’s all I have, but I make it count! I also move A LOT during my day between what I do for a living and chasing my kids around, so I count that too!

The in-between stuff: I’m grateful for the days I WFH, as I can get a few house things done in between clients. A load of laundry, dishes, prep dinner. It helps me get things done ahead of time so when my kids come home I can be fully present with them.

3:00pm

Kids are home! Sage gets off the bus, and we talk about our day. Sometimes we head to an after-school activity, sometimes we head to a park, or sometimes we just hang at home until her brother and dad get home an hour later.

4:00 pm

More chaos! The family is all home. I’m on mom duty - my favorite “job”. I’m hanging with the kids, doing baths, and making dinner. It can be a challenging time of day because there’s a lot going on and I’m a little tired from my own day.

6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Dinner with the family and bedtime routines! I prep the kids' lunch and breakfast ahead of time to make my mornings easier. My husband and I divide and conquer bedtime, and for the most part everyone’s in bed and asleep by 8 pm.

8:00 pm - 9:15/9:30 pm

I am TOAST! My days are active and packed, so at this point I’m tired and just want to relax. Sometimes if I didn’t get all the things I needed to get done during the day, I jump on my computer and get work done. Other times I’m doing things for the kids, like ordering things they need, filling out the endless forms, etc. After all that, I put on a show and stretch. That’s my wind down. I try to not be on my computer/phone after 845/9 at the latest.

9:30 pm

I’m in bed reading. I have a little routine to help my body know it’s time for bed. I write in my gratitude journal every night. I list 3 things that I was grateful for that day. Most of the time, it’s the simplest things that just made me smile. I then look at a few videos/pictures of my kids so that I end my day positively. Then I read whatever book I’m reading. I usually last about 10 minutes before I’m falling asleep! It takes me FOREVER to read a book!

10:00 pm

Lights out! I’m at a season in my life where I may or may not get woken up in the middle of the night by one of my children. Right now, my little Asher is going through the lovely 18-month sleep regression, so he’s waking up multiple times. I’m not sleeping as well as I normally do, so I make sure I go to bed early to at least attempt to get my 8 hours.

Reflection: My life is a bit chaotic right now, but I’m grateful for all of it and try to just roll with it instead of fighting the crazy. Deep breathing when things get too stimulating help me stay calm and just embrace what is. My non-negotiables are daily movement, nutrition, and taking mini breaks throughout my day. Anyone want to spend the day with me?!
