The nice weather is here - finally!!! Time for some sunshine, warmth, travel, and much-needed good weather. When the nice weather hits,  we don't feel like being inside, which also means we don't feel like going to the gym. It's too nice out! We get it, but that doesn't mean your workouts have to suffer.

We are HUGE fans of outdoor workouts. You get the benefit of being outside while getting your workout in. You also don't need equipment! Here a few ideas to create a great workout outside so you can be outside but not skip your workout.

Outdoor playground

I’m a huge fan of using a playground for a workout space. When I take my kids to the playground - I play with them! There are stairs, bars, swings etc. It has everything I need to create a fun workout, while my kids have fun too. Here are some examples of some exercises you can do at the park.

Steps:

  • Single Leg Lunges

  • Step ups

  • Squat Jumps

  • Incline/Decline pushups

Swings:

  • Bridging with feet on the swing

  • Plank (it’s super hard!)

  • Plank to pike with your feet on the swing

Monkey bars:

  • Ok just doing the monkey bars is hard lol

  • Pull ups with different arm positions

  • Leg lifts hanging off the bar

Park Bench

You can do a whole workout on a park bench!! If there are multiple park benches, you can do a HIIT style and sprint to each park bench and perform a different exercise.

Legs:

  • Step ups

  • Single leg squats

  • Pistol squats

  • Jumps (just make sure the bench is secure!)

Upper body

  • Incline/Decline pushups

  • Pike pushups

  • Tricep dips

  • Travel pushups (travel the length of the bench)

Abs

Lay on the bench and do some core work

Field or other open space

Using your own body you can create a great workout!

Bodyweight squats

Alternating lunges (lateral lunges, front to back lunges)

Squat or lunge jumps

Pushups

Sprints and agility work

Bear crawls

Supine abdominal work

Planks

So as you can see, you don’t necessarily have to be in a gym to get a good workout. Also don’t forget the power of a good walk. Get out in nature and move your body!!
